Hair Loss in the Spring

It’s finally starting to warm up outside and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to enjoying more time outside with the upcoming spring and summer season upon us. Unfortunately, with the natural, bright sunlight, physical imperfections like thinning hair or hair loss can be exposed.

Fluctuating temperatures during this time of year when we’re in between unseasonably warm and cold temperatures can make your scalp dry and flakey, which could expose an unprotected layer of skin on your scalp to harmful UV rays.

Since it is also pollenating season, irritants such as pollen, dander and dust can block your scalp’s pores and weaken the hair follicles, eventually irritating your skin, causing inflammation, dandruff and hair loss.

How to Prevent Hair Loss in the Spring Season?

1. Cover your head with an umbrella or hat is an easy way to prevent hair loss during the spring season.

It’s important to note that wearing a hat for a prolonged period of time can also aggravate hair loss. A hat with a snug fit can obstruct circulation to the head and weaken hair follicles. Additionally, if you’re sweating underneath the hat, sweat and bacteria can also trap hair follicles and slow down hair growth. Remove your hat every so often to allow the sweat to evaporate or select a hat that does not fit too tightly on your hat and secure it to your head with a strap.

2. Avoid excessively greasy foods, instant foods, and carbonated drinks as they can aggravate your scalp’s condition and impede the rate of hair growth.

3. Fill your daily diet with foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, iron, zinc, proteins and vitamin A, B, C, D and E. For a suggested list of vegetarian and meat options that are good for your health and hair growth, check out our previous blog here.

4. Supplement your diet with vitamins and/or natural hair products such as Tricovel if you’re unable to consume an ample amount of some of the suggested foods from the blog mentioned above.
